Occupy the market!

Guimarães 2012 European Capital of Culture invites you to occupy the market with creativity and talent, and to participate in a collective action which is open to all.
A new life begins for the Municipal Market. This new appropriation will come to life through a gradual process, as a consequence of the interaction between the traders that currently occupy and work at the market and other people who propose to occupy the market with new ideas and creativity, based on the very potential of the space itself. Throughout the Pop Up Market Week, there will be a number of initiatives aimed at introducing some of these new possibilities for the life of the Market.

However this is intended to be only the beginning of a process that will unveil to the city an open platform for experimentation and the exploration of new forms of generating economic value with recourse to creativity and talent. We aim at the co-existence of all types of activities, but we will value all proposals that focus on typical products and activities of the market or the topic of sustainability, for instance by looking to interact with the current public and promoting the attraction of new publics. We can all be a part of this.

Sign up now and you will be entitled to a wall space at one of the five POP UP Market stores prepared for that purpose. That space will be yours to intervene with drawings, paintings and writings. You will be part of an inaugural informal display to celebrate the opening of the Pop Up Market.

Send your name, age, occupation and, if possible, a sample of your work to the following email address: pop.up@guimaraes2012.pt. Everyone will have the chance to send in their contributions between 25 and 29 March. The display will be inaugurated on 30 March and it will be open to the public until 8 April.
