Guimarães 2012 CEC

Having as a premise the enhancement of the region and its patrimony, and the enrichment of the quality of life for future and present generations, Guimarães 2012 European Capital of Culture endorses capitalising on the City’s available areas and assets, by means of 8 extensive projects on tangible heritage sights, to be executed by the Municipal Council.

This programme includes the rehabilitation of public and private buildings of historical interest, together with improvements to urban areas, which have lost their key roles in the city’s cultural, social and economic process over time. The upgrading of these areas will give rise to a new backdrop to daily life and experience enabling Guimarães and the surrounding region to reposition itself on a national and European scale.
