About the City
To celebrate Guimarães’ status as European Capital of Culture in 2012, we have prepared a set of services, offers and fresh perspectives of the city, which in continuity with local traditions, will provide unique moments and experiences, befitting this ancient territory and community that for many centuries has maintained an open, curious and hospitable outlook.

We have launched the challenge: “Find Your Guimarães”, that uses an original signposting system to invite inhabitants and visitors to explore alternative circuits within the city, as part of a “wandering” itinerary, which promises to provide new urban perspectives.
We’ve also launched a new tourist information service that goes well beyond the conventional offer. This involves a personalised approach with informal visits, based on genuine living experiences with local inhabitants.
We have created a new Digital Manufacturing laboratory, equipped with state-of-the-art computer-assisted design and manufacturing resources, that forges multidisciplinary links between culture and technology. An educational space that will foster innovation, training, research and production.
We provide guided visits to leading art and architecture exhibitions, in which each group is received with a tailor-made itinerary for the group’s specific interests, adapted to each group’s age range, language and goals, and thereby providing experiences which will bring members of the general public closer to artistic forms.
We will raise the curtain and provide a behind-the-scenes view of this European Capital of Culture. We have invited improbable guides who will bring a new perspective of the city. We will spend one day with key thinkers and decision-makers from the past, present and future, who will reveal new Places in Guimarães and propose a visit to the municipality’s 69 parishes.
We invite you to explore this unique region, in which historical traditions and customs blend with avant-garde trends and modernity. From adventure to well-being and from well-being to culture, this destination offers an infinite range of possibilities for visitors to choose from.
